Grand Opening of Best Buy at the Plaza at the Speedway Development
April 22, 2009
Best Buy electronics became the first tenant to open for business as a part of the 850,000 square foot Plaza at the Speedway development in Kansas City, Kansas.
Block & Company, Inc., Retail Team, led by Principal David M. Block, along with Vice President Becky Goodman are the leasing agents for Plaza at the Speedway, which is Block & Company's newest power center to open in 2009. This new power shopping center will be further anchored by a Wal-Mart Supercenter, also opening in 2009, with many other retailers and restaurants yet to be announced.
Located at 10500 Parallel Parkway, just seconds from I-435 and Parallel intersection, the new 45,000 square foot Best Buy held a ribbon cutting ceremony on April 17th before the doors opened to the general public. Best Buy Store General Manager Mike Carr and The Unified Government of Wyandotte County Mayor Joe Reardon snipped the logoed Best Buy ribbon as hundreds of potential shoppers waited in lines outside the doors.
"This opening is one of the bright spots in commercial real estate development which up until now has been off to a slow yearly start," said David Block. "I am proud that Block & Company is a part of this new construction project that benefits Wyandotte County and the new jobs created because of the development."
The Plaza at the Speedway shopping center is located directly north of The Legends lifestyle shopping center, Kansas Speedway, Nebraska Furniture Mart, Cabela's, and the future Schlitterbahn water park. This site boasts outstanding visibility and draws from a large regional trade area of the Greater Kansas City metro area and northeast Kansas with 14 million visitors annually.
